Angel’s Portrait Completed — July 31, 2016
I recently completed my portrait of friend Angel. The major change I’ve made in this version is in his expression. In our last sitting, I asked Angel to give me more of a look of surprise, something that’s not easy to hold onto for long. I’ve tried to capture it here with wider eyes, flared nostrils, and an open mouth in which the lips capture more light. It’s a modest look of mild surprise, not one of shock.
I also remodelled the hands slightly in this final version. I wanted to extend the fingers and depth of the hand, and to warm them up to reflect the distance from the candle flame.
I will give the finished portrait a new name — “Disturbed”, oil on linen, 32″x 24″
